Coastal path, north side
The northern stretch of the coast path is mostly flat, which makes it deceptive: wind and loose shingle turn twenty-two kilometres into a proper day out.
The route
Start at the fishing harbour and keep the sea on your left. The path alternates between juniper pasture, pine dunes and long beaches of rounded stones. Two small villages offer water and, in season, a café.
Boulders
Glacial erratics are everywhere here, some as large as a sauna. The biggest one has a name, a sign and usually a family having a picnic on top of it.
Packing list
Windproof layer, more water than you think, plasters for the shingle sections and a bus timetable for the way back. The last bus leaves earlier than you would expect.
